Is Online Computer Repair Worth It?

When done correctly, online computer repair can save you valuable time and money. However, not every online virus removal service is worthy of your dollars. While a good service can save you from spending hundreds of dollars by taking your PC to your local repair shop, a bad service can totally destroy your computer. In order to save yourself from a major pitfall, watch out for the following scams when seeking an online PC repair service: US-based service Many online computer repair services explicitly advertise that they are US-based. They do it in order to retain those customers who have no desire to speak to someone from India with a thick accent. However, what we have found that many of these so-called US-based sites are actually based in some developing country. They lie when they say they are US-based. If you call such a service and find out that the person on the other side has a heavy Indian accent or something similar, just cut the call and look for another provider. Very cheap price When hunting for a good online computer repair service, you will come across services that promise to do everything for a fixed rate of $35.99 or similar. However, the thing is that from our experience in the industry we know very well that to repair a computer it requires several hours of hard work. Then how can these services provide you everything for so cheap? Well, firstly, they may be hiring some young technicians to practice on your PC. Secondly, they may be doing things with no regard for quality work. In addition to that, thirdly, they may be based in a country like India or Philippines where hiring people is super cheap. A service may be indulging in all three of these in order to save costs, too. So, save yourself some headache and do not avail a service that is super cheap. You do not want your computer destroyed by some scammers who have no care for your well-being. Go for a reasonably-priced option, instead. Certified company A website may be claiming to be certified, but if you dig deeper you will find that the whole ‘certified’ thing is a scam. We have contacted many such ‘certified’ services to ask them about their certifications in detail, only to find that they have no good answer. So, avoid these so- called ‘certified’ services that actually have no real credentials. Free antivirus Some online services will claim to offer you an excellent antivirus absolutely free of cost! Times Faster

Regular desktop computers, as well as laptops and smartphones, have processing units dedicated to computing and memory. They’re called von Neumann systems and are named after physicist and computer scientist John von Neumann who, among other things, was a pioneer in modern digital computing. They work by moving data back and forth between the memory and computing unit; a process that can, and often does, end up being slow and not very efficient. At least, not as fast or efficient as what we could achieve using “computational memory.” Also known as “in-memory computing,” computational memory allows for storing and processing information using just the physical properties of a computer system’s memory. A team from IBM Research claims to have made a breakthrough in computational memory by successfully using one million phase change memory (PCM) devices to run an unsupervised machine learning algorithm. Details of the research have been published in the journal Nature Communications. Read the full article
